The Baby Products I Recommend as a Newborn Photographer and Mom

As a newborn photographer in OKC and a mom myself, I've spent a lot of time around babies in those first sweet weeks. Between photographing hundreds of newborns and navigating life with my own little ones, I've found that the products I recommend most aren't always the newest or trendiest. They're the ones that make everyday life a little easier, help parents feel more confident, and create a calmer environment for everyone.

Swaddles That Actually Stay Put

A good swaddle can be a game changer during those early weeks. While every baby has their own preferences, I've found that simple swaddles with a little stretch tend to work beautifully. They help babies feel secure and often make it easier for them to settle.

Even if your baby eventually prefers having their arms out, a quality swaddle is one of those items you'll reach for again and again in the beginning.

White Noise Is Worth It

If there's one product I recommend to almost every new parent, it's a white noise machine.

Babies spend months surrounded by constant sound before they're born, so complete silence can actually feel unfamiliar. White noise creates a consistent background that can help block household sounds, making naps and bedtime a little less unpredictable.

As someone who photographs newborns, I've seen firsthand how soothing that familiar sound can be during a session, too.

Keep Newborn Clothing Simple

Tiny outfits are adorable, but simple is almost always better.

Soft sleepers, knotted gowns, and zip-up pajamas make diaper changes easier and keep babies comfortable throughout the day. They also photograph well because they don't overwhelm those tiny newborn features.

If you're shopping, look for soft, breathable fabrics in neutral colors or gentle earth tones. They're timeless, easy to mix and match, and look beautiful in everyday photos.

Feeding Support Makes a Difference

Whether you're breastfeeding, bottle feeding, pumping, or doing a combination of all three, having a comfortable feeding setup can make those long days feel a little easier.

A supportive nursing pillow, a large water bottle, a small basket for snacks, burp cloths within arm's reach, and a phone charger nearby can turn one spot in your home into a place where you can settle in without needing to get up every few minutes.

Sometimes it's the little things that make the biggest difference.

Create a Simple Diaper Station

One of my favorite pieces of advice is to keep diaper supplies where you actually spend your time.

Instead of storing everything in the nursery, consider putting together a small basket with diapers, wipes, diaper cream, extra clothes, and burp cloths for your living room or bedroom. You'll probably use it more often than you expect.

Having everything within reach makes those frequent diaper changes feel much less overwhelming.

Don't Be Afraid to Babywear

Baby carriers are one of those products that many parents don't fully appreciate until they're in the newborn stage.

There are days when your baby simply wants to be close, and that's completely normal. A comfortable carrier lets you keep your little one snuggled in while still having your hands free to make lunch, play with an older sibling, or simply move around the house.

It can be a wonderful way to meet your baby's need for closeness while giving yourself a little flexibility.

Every Family Finds What Works for Them

Every baby is different, and what becomes your can't-live-without item may be completely different from someone else's. Give yourself permission to figure it out as you go. You don't need every gadget or every trending product to be an amazing parent.

What your baby needs most is you.

Those first few weeks can feel like a blur of late nights, sleepy snuggles, and learning together. They go by faster than anyone tells you, which is exactly why I love documenting this season for families. It's messy, beautiful, exhausting, and incredibly fleeting.

If you're expecting and looking for a newborn photographer in OKC, I'd love to help you preserve these first memories. My newborn sessions are relaxed, baby-led, and designed to capture all of the little details you'll want to remember long after this season has passed.

Reach out to book your newborn session, and let's create something you'll treasure for years to come. 🤍
